The Lighting, Sound & Video industry consists predominantly of businesses as diverse as:
  • Rental Houses who rent equipment to others
  • Reinforcement/Production Houses who provide services to others with operators
  • Installers who permanently install equipment
  • Riggers who provide rigging services
  • Recording Studios who provide recording services
  • as well as those who manufacture, distribute, wholesale, and retail Lighting, Sound & Video related products.
As an adjunct to their operations many such businesses also offer increasingly specialized services such as customized software developed to control hardware and provide special effects, or might design and construct props and stages.

In reality many such businesses provide some combination of the foregoing services.

There exists a broad variety of Standard Insurance Coverages available to meet the needs of many Lighting, Sound & Video related businesses, which the insurance industry tends to understand well enough - manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers, and (sometimes) installers.



There are also available specialty insurance coverages addressing, for instance, "Contingency Coverages" which provide insurance protection for your business "contingent" to something else, hopefully not, happening- such as adverse weather, sickness, disability, death, etc.

The most misunderstood - or nonunderstood - operations in the industry, however, tend to involve reinforcement houses.

Reinforcement Houses - The current difficulty with providing appropriate insurance coverages for reinforcement (frequently referred to as production) work centers on who should be primarily responsible for what.
Insurance carriers tend to insist on "rental agreements" that are rather standardized for rental houses but which frequently do not address the real exposures or needs of reinforcement work, especially with respect to Additional Insured requirements and Equipment Floater forms, which leaves most reinforcement houses either extremely vulnerable to inadequate insurance protection and/or paying for incorrect coverages.
